Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>AFTER five years of serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Namib Desert Diamonds (Namdia), Kennedy Hamutenya\u2019s contract has come to an end.<\/p>\n

Hamutenya will be replaced temporarily by Lelly Usiku, the former General Manager of Sales and Marketing.<\/p>\n

In a press statement, company spokesperson Beverley Coussement said: \u201cThe Board, Management and staff members of Namib Desert Diamonds herewith wish to express our gratitude for the service rendered by Kennedy Hamutenya, who served as the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of Namdia from 01 July 2017 until 01 July 2022. It is under Hamutenya\u2019s stewardship that Namdia was successfully established and is now a renowned trader of Namibian diamonds.\u201d<\/p>\n

Coussement said Namdia is excited about the new phase that the company enters as it expands its horizons in pursuing its mandate of price discovery on Namibian diamonds.<\/p>\n

The PRO stated that the newly appointed Usiku will be an Acting Chief Executive Officer of Namdia effective 2nd July 2022 until a substantive CEO is appointed.<\/p>\n

Namdia was established out of an agreement between the government and De Beers in 2016, to ensure Namibia was getting the best value for its diamonds by going onto the open market.<\/p>\n

Before he was appointed the CEO of Namdia, Hamutenya served as a diamond commissioner in the Ministry of Mines and Energy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Board would like to congratulate and wish Usiku all the best in her new role and look forward to her continued contribution,\u201d Coussement said.<\/p>\n
