Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE deputy mayor of Keetmanshoop, Charlcyta Cooper, who is a member of the Landless People’s Movement (LPM), is being questioned over allegations that she betrayed the party.<\/b><\/p>\n

Cooper became deputy mayor in 2020, after regional and local authority elections held that year.<\/p>\n

The Keetmanshoop council consists of five LPM councillors and two Swapo councillors.<\/p>\n

LPM leader Bernadus Swartbooi said it was brought to the party’s attention that Cooper is allegedly intimate with functionaries that are fighting the LPM on a daily basis, and that she is sharing critical information with them which compromises the work of the LPM.<\/p>\n

Swartbooi made these statements in a letter written to Cooper a week ago, which requested that she justify why she should remain a councillor in the Keetmanshoop local authority, and a member of the LPM.<\/p>\n

Swartbooi said there were also allegations that Cooper reportedly did not adhere to the standards a deputy mayor should maintain, and she allegedly appears to approach her political mandate with a sense of carelessness and intellectual fatigue.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour journey has been watched, and I express my sincere concern about your inability to lead,\u201d said Swartbooi.<\/p>\n

The LPM has given Cooper until Thursday to respond to the allegations made against her.<\/p>\n

Cooper declined to comment when approached for comment by The Namibian on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
