Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>DESPITE the Affirmative Reposition (AR) movement saying it will not participate or back any candidate in the forthcoming Swakopmund by-election, one of its members is contesting as an independent.<\/b><\/p>\n

Williward Narib (still an AR member) will contest as an independent candidate, while Roger Dausabe will contest under the Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) in the forthcoming by-election.<\/p>\n

Narib says he is not defying the movement’s stance.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’m a Swakopmunder and I’m based at Swakopmund, meaning all the problems here I can resolve individually without depending on the movement,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He says he remains part of the movement. Narib has been advocating services such as a police station, municipal pay-point and prepaid water meters for the residents of the DRC informal settlement at Swakopmund and was previously aspiring for the mayoral position.<\/p>\n

Dausab, who is now a member of NEFF, says he still fights against corruption, and for land and service delivery for the masses.<\/p>\n

He has been advocating better operating conditions for seven-seater taxi drivers, street vendors and land delivery for low-income earners.<\/p>\n

The current mayor of Swakopmund, Louisa Kativa, of the Independent Patriots for Change, and former mayor Nehemiah Salomon of Swapo, are also eyeing the position.<\/p>\n

Kativa, who has been the mayor for only a year and eight months, said she can handle the constituency office.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’m the best candidate for this role. First, due to my cultural background, I’m fit to deliver exceptional results to the community of Swakopmund. I’m able to work with different cultural community members. Second, I’m very flexible and adaptive to learning new things,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Attempts to reach Salomon or his party information coordinator proved futile.<\/p>\n

Other candidates vying for the seat are Zerolda Dantu of the United Democratic Front, Bernhard von Seydlitz of the United People Movement, Hilaria Musheka of the Landless People’s Movement and Leilani Pashecka of the Popular Democratic Movement.<\/p>\n
