Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>NAMIBIA bounced back from a 77-run defeat to Scotland on Sunday with a 40-run victory against Nepal in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 tournament on Monday.<\/b><\/p>\n

After winning the toss and electing to bat at the Scottish coastal town of Ayr, Namibia were all out for 220 off 47,3 overs, which proved to be more than enough as Nepal were all out for 180 with three overs remaining.<\/p>\n

Namibia got off to a solid start with Divan La Cock scoring an attacking 41 off 32 balls (7×4), but Lohan Louwrens was dismissed for 18, Craig Williams for 21 and Zane Green for 3 as Namibia were pegged back to 98 for 4 wickets after 22 overs.<\/p>\n

Nicol Loftie-Eaton, however, stabilised the innings with a fine knock of 60 off 70 balls (5×4, 1×6), while Gerhard Erasmus added 22, JJ Smit 17 and David Wiese 18 as Namibia reached a competitive total.<\/p>\n

Nepal’s stand-out bowler was leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane, who took four wickets for 54 runs off 10 overs, while Sompal Kami took 2\/44.<\/p>\n

In reply, Nepal’s openers Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh put on 30 runs for the first wicket, but Sheikh’s dismissal by Frylinck started a slide from which they could not recover.<\/p>\n

By the 18th over they were struggling at 58\/4 and although Dev Khanal (34) and Aarif Sheikh (50 not out) gave them hope with a 45-run partnership, Namibia’s bowlers held the upper hand as they stemmed the run rate and picked up regular wickets to complete a comfortable victory.<\/p>\n

David Wiese (2\/24), Bernard Scholtz (2\/27) and Jan Frylinck (2\/30) took two wickets each for Namibia, while Ruben Trumpelmann (1\/42) and Erasmus (1\/22) took one each.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, Namibia got off to a losing start on their Scottish tour when they lost by 77 runs to the hosts in Glasgow.<\/p>\n

After being sent in to bat, Scotland posted a sizeable 258\/6, before Namibia were bundled out for 181 with seven overs remaining.<\/p>\n

In Scotland’s innings, Kyle Coetzer and Matthew Cross put on 58 for the first wicket, before Trumpelmann dismissed Coetzer for 29, while two wickets in quick succession by Tangeni Lungameni (Cross for 28 and Richie Berrington for 1) reduced Scotland to 74\/3.<\/p>\n

Calum McLeod (50) and George Munsey (71 not out) however revived the innings with a 94-run partnership, while Chris Greaves added 26 and Michael Least 18 as Scotland reached a competitive total.<\/p>\n

For Namibia, captain Erasmus took 3\/56 off 10 overs, while Lungameni took 2\/46.<\/p>\n

Namibia’s innings got off to a disastrous start as Hamza Tahir dismissed Zane Green (3) and Divan La Cock (0) off successive balls, and when Safyaan Sharif trapped Erasmus lbw for two, Namibia had crashed to 8\/3.<\/p>\n

Nicol Loftie-Eaton (50 off 58 balls) and Lohan Louwrens (47) revived the innings with a 96-run partnership, but Sharif dismissed both in quick succession to put Scotland in the ascendancy.<\/p>\n

Further down the order, JJ Smit scored 28, Jan Frylinck 18 and Ruben Trumpelmann 15 as Namibia crashed to 181 all out.<\/p>\n

Sharif was Scotland’s star bowler, taking 5\/35 off nine overs, while Hamza Tahir took 2\/27 and Mark Watt 2\/44.<\/p>\n

The results leave Namibia fifth on the log on 16 points from 16 matches, although they still have several matches in hand on the teams above them.<\/p>\n

Oman lead the log on 44 points from 36 matches, followed by Scotland (30 from 21 matches), UAE (26 from 22 matches), and the USA (23 from 24 matches).<\/p>\n

Nepal are sixth on 15 from 17 matches and PNG seventh on two points from 20 matches.<\/p>\n

Namibia’s next matches on their Scottish tour are against Scotland tomorrow and Nepal on Saturday.<\/p>\n
