Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>WINDHOEK Old Boys continue to set the pace in the BDO Wanderers Hockey Night League as they top both the men and women’s logs after Tuesday’s matches.<\/b><\/p>\n

Their men’s second team drew 2-2 against School of Excellence to move one point clear of BDO Wanderers and Masters at the top of the log, while their women’s first team moved two points clear at the top after their second team did them a favour by beating DTS 3-2.<\/p>\n

According to the competition’s rules and regulations, second teams receive a two-goal advantage for each match against first teams, and Old Boys II had to thank their bonus for getting a draw against SOE.<\/p>\n

Ronald Kapuire gave SOE the lead with a field goal shortly before half time, while he grabbed a second field goal in the final chukka to give SOE a share of the spoils.<\/p>\n

Old Boys II now lead the log on 11 points, followed by Wanderers and Masters on 10 points each, while Old Boys I and SOE are both on seven points.<\/p>\n

DTS, meanwhile, recorded their first victory in the competition with a resounding 5-2 win against NUST.<\/p>\n

NUST, which normally plays in the second league, also received a two-goal advantage, and although they initially defended well, DTS wore them down as the match progressed.<\/p>\n

Christopher Dalton opened the scoring with a field goal in the second chukka while Damien Sch\u00fctz made it 2-0 with a fine solo goal shortly after halftime.<\/p>\n

Dalton added a second goal from the penalty spot, while two more field goals in the final chukka by Sedric Makati and Ian Lottering gave DTS a resounding 5-2 victory.<\/p>\n

They are now sixth on the log on three points, followed by Wanderers II on one and NUST on zero points.<\/p>\n

In the women’s league, DTS spurned a chance to replace WOB I at the top of the log after they went down 3-2 to WOB II, who also started with a two-goal advantage.<\/p>\n

Jessie Gresse opened DTS’ account from a short corner midway through the second quarter, but WOB II went 3-1 ahead through a field goal by Danelle Hartzenberg on the stroke of half time.<\/p>\n

Despite dominating possession, DTS couldn’t find the net and although Maryke Schickerling scored from a short corner in the final quarter, it was too little too late as WOB II held on for a 3-2 victory.<\/p>\n

WOB I now lead the log on 11 points, followed by DTS (9), WOB II (7), Wanderers (4) and SOE (4).<\/p>\n
