Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Student Union of Namibia (SUN) has proposed that a module for driving schools be incorporated into practical lessons in tertiary education institutions.<\/b><\/p>\n

This proposal was revealed by SUN postgraduate representative Victoria Nehale at a press conference on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Nehale said key stakeholders negotiating to make this a reality are the tertiary institutions in Namibia, Namibian Qualifications Authority to accredit the course, Ministry of Works and Transport and Ministry of Higher Education.<\/p>\n

According to Nehale the aim for this initiative is to give young people who are offering driving lessons to members of the public to register their vehicles with various institutions so that they can offer practical driving lessons to students.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe reason we want to bring it to academic institutions is because the content of training programmes in driving schools should be based on empirical data and focus on those psychomotor, cognitive and perceptual mental disabilities which are associated with high accident rates for novice drivers,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Nehale also added that the curriculum should allow for the demonstration of existing safety practices to motivate young drivers to drive safely.<\/p>\n
