Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Ondangwa Town Council has urged those with unpaid municipal accounts to pay up for them to remain operational as the council is faced with outstanding debt from consumers which stands at over N$ 97 million.<\/p>\n

This was revealed during a public consultative meeting on municipal debts held at the town on Thursday.<\/p>\n

According to the town finance department, most of the debts are owed by land sales of 149 allocation vacant plots which stand at over N$ 81 million, 710 owner and consumer accounts with all service owes over N$32 million and 900 consumers only accounts with services without rates and taxes owed over N$27 million.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, 462 accounts with rates and taxes owe council over N$23 million, 56 Sundry Debtors accounts owe over N$3 million and 540 other Debtors owe over N$10 million.<\/p>\n

They explained that the Council has an obligation to provide services to the residents, visitors and investors.<\/p>\n

\u201cTherefore; our operation and capital expenditures are funded through the revenue source of the services we provide,\u201d said the finance department.<\/p>\n

During the current budget for the financial year 2022\/23 a total of N$ 170 484 910 was put aside for the capital projects which are inclusive at estimated cost of N$ 47 782 601 which is 28% of the budget.<\/p>\n

They emphasized that the implementation of council\u2019s much needed capital projects is heavily dependent on availability of funds.<\/p>\n

Thus, non-payment of accounts would have a spiraling effect that could hamper the implementation of these projects.<\/p>\n

Therefore it is vital that Council engage a Debt Collection Agent as soon as possible for betterment.<\/p>\n
