Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>FNB REHOBOTH’S chances of making the knockout stages of the Rugby Premier League took a knock when they went down 14-10 in a bruising encounter against FNB Unam on Saturday.<\/b><\/p>\n

Rehoboth gave an inspirational performance, and with a bit of luck could well have won the match, but have now dropped off the pace after a battling encounter that led to several injuries and bloodied faces on both sides.<\/p>\n

With the other front-runners, FNB Western Suburbs, FNB Wanderers and FNB Kudus all winning their matches, Rehoboth are now seven points behind fourth-placed Suburbs and with only four rounds remaining the odds are now stacked against them to make the knockout stages.<\/p>\n

On Saturday they took the match to Unam from the start, but wasted several scoring opportunities in the opening quarter. Fly-half Geraldo Beukes missed two penalties, one of which bounced off the upright, while a great break by Miguel Busch nearly led to a try.<\/p>\n

The momentum swung Unam’s way in the second quarter as they bashed away at Rehoboth’s try-line, with Oderich Mouton twice coming close, but great defence by Rehoboth kept them at bay.<\/p>\n

Unam finally opened their account with a penalty by Aljarreau Zaahl on 35 minutes and Rehoboth once again had to defend for all their worth in the closing stages of the first half as Prince !Gaoseb was held up inches from the try-line.<\/p>\n

Rehoboth struck back early in the second half with a try by Geraldo Beukes after a barging run by Delano Coetzee, but they squandered an opportunity to stretch their lead as Beukes missed the conversion, while a penalty attempt by Busch also fell short.<\/p>\n

Rehoboth, however, continued to play above themselves, with a near certain try by Shareave Titus thwarted after two flying tackles sent him into touch, but Unam finally regained the lead when a Lorenzo Louis penalty put them 6-5 ahead.<\/p>\n

In a frantic final quarter, Unam went 14-5 ahead after Gaoseb bashed over for an unconverted try, while Louis added a penalty, but Rehoboth once again struck back with a try by Chase Diergaardt in the final minute.<\/p>\n

The result sees Unam remaining third on 36 points, while Rehoboth are now fifth on 27 points – seven behind Western Suburbs.<\/p>\n

FNB Kudus, meanwhile, remained at the top of the log on 45 points after picking up two bonus points in a 43-20 victory against Trustco United.<\/p>\n

Kudus scored seven tries, through Chad Plato and Aston Mukwilongo (two each), and Zane Williams, Percy Nash and Cameron Langenhoven, while Plato added four conversions for a personal tally of 18 points.<\/p>\n

United scored three tries through Janus van den Berg, Pieter Janse van Vuuren and Eloff du Plessis, while Renier Benade added a conversion and a penalty. United remain seventh on the log on seven points.<\/p>\n

Wanderers remained hot on their heels on 43 points after beating FNB Grootfontein 49-21 at Grootfontein.<\/p>\n

Wanderers gained maximum bonus points after scoring seven tries through Nanivatu Karuuombe (three), Jacques Theron, Darius van Solms, Iyambo Tsuuya and Andre van den Berg, who added four conversions and two penalties for a personal haul of 19 points.<\/p>\n

Grootfontein scored three tries through Irongwa Atshivudhi, Johan Luttig and Amutenya Amutenya, while Louis Grobbelaar added three conversions. Grootfontein remain sixth on the log on 24 points.<\/p>\n

Suburbs remain fourth on the log after beating FNB Reho Falcon 30-10 at Rehoboth.<\/p>\n

Suburbs scored four tries through Dylan Izaaks (two), Gino Wilson and Tjingairi Katjivi, while Ricardo Swartz added two conversions and two penalties.<\/p>\n

For Falcons, Enrique Husselman scored a try and a conversion, while Franklin Busch added a drop goal.<\/p>\n

Falcons remain bottom of the log on four points.<\/p>\n
