THE German Embassy donated a total of \u20ac34 200, which is about N$554 718, to the Wakapinya Environmental Education organisation for the implementation of a project aimed at raising awareness on environmental and climate-related issues.<\/p>\n

The donation was made through the embassy\u2019s Climate Fund of the Federal Foreign Office and the German Ambassador, Herbert Beck, signed an agreement with the founder and Executive Director (ED) of Wakapinya Environmental Education, Ester Ishiwa Haikola, as well as the organisation\u2019s General Manager, Julia Nangula Kanyemba on Monday.<\/p>\n

According to the embassy, Haikola founded the organisation because she noticed that the Namibian youth were not environmentally conscious. The funded project therefore aims to sensitise and educate the youth on the environment by providing information on climate and climate change.<\/p>\n

The project will also produce an online show called the \u201cYouth Enviro Show\u201d, which will be hosted in different local languages and air twice a month. Besides raising awareness of environmental and climate-related issues, the show will also provide a platform called the \u201cClubhouse\u201d to give interested parties an opportunity to discuss current topics.<\/p>\n

While viewers can watch the show on Facebook and YouTube, the embassy explained that the show will essentially be a roadshow that will be conducted at three different schools in the Khomas, Omaheke and Hardap regions. It will also introduce environmental clubs, which will be called the \u201cEnviro Warriors Club\u201d, at the selected schools. This is intended to initiate gardening and tree-planting activities at these schools and surrounding communities.<\/p>\n

To further raise awareness on sustainability, the youth will also be taught to create designs and arts from recycled materials (which can be sold for income) to give them an understanding of sustainability and the concepts of reducing, reusing and recycling.<\/p>\n
