GOVERNORS from across the country are currently in Zambezi region for their annual governors forum to tackle issues related to regional coordination and regional governance.<\/p>\n

The forum which kicked off on Monday is being held under the theme: \u201cStrengthening regional governance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Minister of Urban and Rural Development Erastus Uutoni, said the ministry recognises the importance of the governors\u2019 forum which presents an opportunity to re-strategize and strengthen and develop their leadership teams.<\/p>\n

Uutoni stated that bringing together leaders from different parts of the country can bring amazing perspectives as well as develop their relationships a little further that leads to a sense of learning.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe should at all times guard against any acts of tribalism or regionalism which are detrimental to the development of our communities and regions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Further, Uutoni added that the government at all levels remains committed to continue creating an enabling environment and opportunities for their people in general, and especially in informal settlement who do not yet have a place to call home or decent and affordable shelter and supportive municipal infrastructure and services.<\/p>\n

Chairperson of the governors forum Laura McLeod Katjirua, said the previous forum was held in the \/\/Karas Region and was held under the theme \u201cEnhance efficiency for improved regional service delivery\u201d.<\/p>\n

Katjirua emphasised that their initial purpose to establish this Regional Governors Forum is to create a legitimate umbrella platform for the Regional Governors to meet and coordinate their operations.<\/p>\n

\u201cHaving taken full cognizance of the significance of our call of duty and the current demand for effective and efficient service delivery we have initiated this Regional Governors Strategic Session and Annual General Meeting to brainstorm on the opportunities and challenges they have in relation to their mandate of service delivery.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have created this platform to take stock and to share our common challenging realities, experiences, constraints in the overall execution of our given mandate,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She added that they are to reflect on all the possible available negative and positive modalities which influence their performance in their common desire to increase operational efficiency as an important governing organ of the state.<\/p>\n

Kajiura stated that they intend to review and evaluate their institutional capacity to adapt or develop plans to become more efficient, to maximize their strength and to find the most effective direct path toward achieving any objective in their future inventions.<\/p>\n

The 14 governors will tour Ngoma Board Post, Lake Lyambezi, Luhonono German Armory House during their four-day visit.<\/p>\n
