The public must not recklessly dispose of guns and ammunition but rather hand them over to the police, Khomas police commander commissioner Ismael Basson said.<\/p>\n

He made these comments after the detonation of 40mm rifle grenades, which were found in a riverbed 10km away from the Kupferberg roadblock by a passer-by, yesterday.<\/p>\n

The explosives are of South African origin.<\/p>\n

Basson said the grenades were highly explosive, hence the need to detonate them immediately.<\/p>\n

He assured the public that the area was cleared and is safe.<\/p>\n

The public are, however, advised to be cautious when handling guns and ammunition, which are very dangerous, not only to humans, but to the environment as well.<\/p>\n
