Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>SWAKOPMUND Football Club (SFC) got the edge over the Windhoek-based clubs after lifting the first-ever Ongos Valley Futsal Cup by defeating Quality FC 7-5 in the final.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Swakopmund outfit played some entertaining futsal from the onset, defeating Ondobe Eleven FC 20-0 in their first game on Thursday to open their Ongos Valley Futsal Cup account.<\/p>\n

They signalled their dominance throughout the inaugural tournament, conceding only 11 goals and putting 47 goals past five opponents.<\/p>\n

Their players also received individual honours with Matheus Humphries receiving the top goalscorer award after he ended the tournament with 20 goals.<\/p>\n

Saturday’s final against Quality FC proved to be a spectacle for futsal fans who came out in numbers.<\/p>\n

SFC opened the scoring five minutes into the game, but Quality FC struck back to build up a 3-1 lead by halftime.<\/p>\n

SFC drew level soon after the restart and after scoring two goals in two minutes they took a 6-4 lead going into the final quarter.<\/p>\n

Quality came back strongly, but SFC managed to hold on for a 7-5 win and captain Waldron Theron admitted that it was very intense.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt took quite a while for the game to calm down, but I feel like it was a flowing game, very competitive. We got a good game from Quality FC,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Quality FC coach Cheila Nunda said that it was generally a good game, while noting that her team could have done better in some areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe knew it was going to be a tough game. We prepared well so we only lost in small aspects, which was mainly marking,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Quality FC won their first game 11-0 and Nunda said their journey to the final was all planned.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe idea was to send a message from the first game. The idea was to keep it simple but to mark at all times,\u201d Nunda added.<\/p>\n

The founder of Futsal Namibia, Andrei Tirtirau said that the atmosphere of the tournament was amazing and that it was a big success.<\/p>\n

He added that he was glad to see teams participate in numbers, particularly football teams.<\/p>\n

He did, however, note that there was much to learn from some teams.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of the new teams that started were a bit confident that they will do well because they play 11-a-side football. But they got a bit of a shocker when they played against the experienced futsal guys,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, managing director of Ongos Valley, Americo De Almeida confirmed an extension of Ongos’ partnership with Futsal Namibia, saying that there will be a summer cup taking place in December.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to take centre stage in the development of futsal, so we are going to participate throughout the year,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a summer cup coming up in December and this (winter cup) is going to be an annual cup that is going to be repeated next year,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
