THE Kameru Combined School, situated in the Kunene Region, recently received 72 dictionaries and cash from the National Federation of People with Disabilities in Namibia (NFPDN), with assistance from the Namibia National Association of the Deaf (NNAD).<\/p>\n

The school, which is currently home to learners with disabilities, needs financial assistance to build a hostel and more classrooms and to acquire materials specifically for learners with disabilities.<\/p>\n

So far, Council has availed land for the construction of the school hostel and classrooms, but there are no funds.<\/p>\n

Chairperson of NFPDN, Matheus Hashoongo, said that the donation comes after they noticed the unenviable condition of the school.<\/p>\n

Hashoongo stated that apart from what they donated as an organisation, the school is also in need of school materials such as enough classrooms, a hostel, chalkboards and qualified teachers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe majority of disability learners at the school are deaf and they have one teacher and one assistant teacher for the pre-primary school,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He added that the Disability Unit at the school has only one multi-classroom, which consists of pre-primary, grade one, two and three, and they are all taught by one teacher.<\/p>\n

According to him, the environment is not conducive for the learners as class blocks are divided into two sections, where one side has learners without disabilities and the other section has learners with disabilities.<\/p>\n

Further, Hashoongo indicated that the government is aware of the situation, however there are no funds at this stage to implement better infrastructure.<\/p>\n

He then pleaded with the good Samaritans to meet the government half-way for the benefit of a Namibian child with the aim of improving the school\u2019s condition.<\/p>\n
