Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust) Eenhana satellite campus held its first career fair on Friday.<\/b><\/p>\n

The fair was attended by hundreds of pupils from several schools, not only in the Ohangwena region, but also in the Omusati, Oshikoto and Oshana regions.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the event, Nust’s deputy vice chancellor Andrew Niikondo said the purpose of the fair was to expose the university’s programmes to pupils in secondary schools, especially those in grades 11 and 12.<\/p>\n

\u201cThose are our potential students. People in the rural areas \u2013 especially in the remote areas \u2013 are not aware of what a university is all about and the types of academic programmes offered.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou find once students are done with secondary school, they hang around or simply apply [at tertiary institutions], but are not well informed when it comes to programmes they want to follow.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the right time, since the students are going to write exams in August and universities require these results,\u201d Niikondo said.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the same occasion, was the director of the Eenhana-based Homestead Skills and Technical Education Academy, Cardine Gwiina, who said she was grateful that a career fair could be hosted in the region.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo not waste your education. This region has the highest school dropout rate, and it is of concern. Education is the tool to transforming lives, communities, society, your country, and the world at large.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour career choices will affect all aspects of your life,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
