Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>A REVISED bid and appointment of ambassadors are the latest developments in Botswana and Namibia’s joint bid for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).<\/p>\n

A REVISED bid and appointment of ambassadors are the latest developments in Botswana and Namibia’s joint bid for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).<\/p>\n

This follows the Bona 2027 Bid Committee’s second face-to-face meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa on Monday and Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The meeting approved a revised budget for the project, dubbed Bona 2027, which covers facilities audit, consultancies, lobbying and secretariat costs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe budget is now ready for presentation to the two Governments through their respective ministries responsible for sport,\u201d the Bid Committee said in statement yesterday.<\/p>\n

The committee has also \u201cadjudicated some tenders for services that would facilitate Botswana and Namibia to be ready to finalise and deliver a compelling bid in respect of the 36th edition of the Afcon competition.\u201d<\/p>\n

The committee has also roped in four football luminaries each from Botswana and Namibia to serve as Bona ambassadors.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ambassadors will amongst other things assist with raising awareness on the bid, communicate the positive social change and legacy the Afcon will leave to Botswana and Namibia, share and promote Afcon values, assist in the lobbying process and for those with the requisite skills, conduct coaching and\/or training in select countries around the continent as part of the bid legacy,\u201d said the bidding body.<\/p>\n

Following her recent appointment as substantive director of sport for Namibia, Jo-Ann Manuel has replaced compatriot Irvine Ndjavera on the bidding committee.<\/p>\n

She is one of two women within the twelve-member Bona 2027 Committee. Manuel will also take over the function of Bona spokesperson in Namibia.<\/p>\n

The Bona 2027 meeting took place at the same time as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) general assembly in Arusha, Tanzania.<\/p>\n

Bona 2027 Bid Committee chairperson Ashford Mamelodi is optimistic that one of the decisions of the CAF assembly is to officially launch the bid for the Afcon 2027.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat way, we would now know the sort of animal we are dealing with and not have to second guess anything; something that will give us even greater focus and impetus as we continue to work on this mammoth task before us,\u201d Mamelodi said.<\/p>\n
