Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>Farm managers of projects run by the Agricultural Business Development Agency (Agribusdev) on Friday started to report to the executive director in the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform.<\/p>\n

Farm managers of projects run by the Agricultural Business Development Agency (Agribusdev) on Friday started to report to the executive director in the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform.<\/p>\n

Agribusdev managing director Berfine Antindi in a memo to the managers did not explain why the move was executed before the proposed transition date of 1 September. Antindi only requested that the managers submit reports pertaining to their operations by 23 August.<\/p>\n

Agribusdev employees say the move has left them in limbo.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs of today, we don’t know the future of the employees and the way forward. The memo does not explain what will happen to the scheme employees,\u201d said an employee, who spoke on condition of anonymity.<\/p>\n

Agriculture minister Calle Schlettewein notified Agribusdev’s board chairperson, in a letter dated 8 August, of the agriculture ministry’s intention to end Agribusdev’s management of green scheme projects by 1 September.<\/p>\n

That is in line with a decision made by the Cabinet last year.<\/p>\n

Schlettwein requested the Agribusdev board of directors to submit a detailed handover report to the ministry.<\/p>\n

He also requested that Agribusdev should continue to pay employees’ salaries until the agency’s budget is transferred to the ministry, which is due to take place during the 2022\/23 mid-year budget review.<\/p>\n
