Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Namib Desert Diamonds (NAMDIA) launched the NAMDIA Foundation Bursary Scheme, which the company deems its biggest investment yet, to contribute towards the alleviation of Namibia\u2019s social and economic challenges.<\/p>\n

The scheme was launched on Wednesday in honour of Zacharias Lewala, who discovered the first diamond in Namibia in 1908 in Kolmannskuppe.<\/p>\n

The Chairperson of the NAMDIA board, Bryan Eiseb, said that the foundation will annually award 14 bursaries to less privileged Namibian grade 12 graduates who have been accepted at tertiary institutions in Namibia and Southern African Development Community (SADC).<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Bursary Scheme is an effort to complement the Namibian Government and Private sectors\u2019 existing measures to afford the Namibian child an education,\u201d Eiseb added.<\/p>\n

He explained that the scheme will focus on future skills in mining, engineering, data analytics, robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), environment sciences and technical and vocational education and training (TVET).<\/p>\n

The bursary scheme aims to award students under the age of 25 from every region to pursue their tertiary education. These bursaries are valued at N$200 000 maximum annually per student.<\/p>\n

To qualify for the bursary, the students require an above average academic performance in Grade 12 throughout the year and must pass with 30 or more points at the end of the year. An added advantage will be given to students from marginalised communities who meet the aforementioned requirements.<\/p>\n

Applicants are advised to provide confirmation of acceptance from an institution of higher learning, a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV) and a motivational letter to explain why they should be awarded the bursary. This must be accompanied with a certified copies of national identification documents and, if possible, a provisional cost of the total programme and duration of their studies.<\/p>\n

Applicants must also be prepared for an interview with the internal Bursary Committee.<\/p>\n
