Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Eenghoshi Bikers Club on Saturday donated groceries and cosmetics worth N$5 000 to the EPM kindergarten and day care centre at the new Havana informal settlement near Ongos Valley in Windhoek.<\/p>\n

THE Eenghoshi Bikers Club on Saturday donated groceries and cosmetics worth N$5 000 to the EPM kindergarten and day care centre at the new Havana informal settlement near Ongos Valley in Windhoek.<\/p>\n

The handover coincided with World Humanitarian Day, which is observed globally on 19 August, and was celebrated under the theme ‘It Takes a Village’ this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis handover is very special to us as it marks exactly four years since the establishment of our outreach programmes,\u201d Eenghoshi Bikers Club president Tuafeni Jekonia said.<\/p>\n

“This donation will not only help us spread the message of solidarity, but it also brings hope to the children who are limited to one meal a day,” he said.<\/p>\n

Penomwene Nekwaya (25), the founder of EPM, said she established the centre after accommodating two homeless women at home last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also cook and cater for about 70 children every Saturday, and the number of children coming to the centre keeps increasing. However, the food is not always enough.<\/p>\n

“At times I make use of the funds I make from my small takeaway business where I sell fast food,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

“I have bigger dreams as I would like to have a hostel and proper accommodation for children and their mothers, who at times have no place to call home,” Nekwaya said.<\/p>\n

She said she was also inspired to start her own care centre by her friend Martha Festus, who is the founder of a soup kitchen where she used to be a volunteer.<\/p>\n

Nekwaya’s mother, Martha Sakaria (52), said she has welcomed the initiative at her home because her daughter has one thing in common with her, which is caring for others and compassion for children.<\/p>\n

\u201cI commend the Eenghoshi Biker’s Club for reaching out to us. This means so much to us. It will help us provide for the centre on the coming weekends,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Sakaria called on members of the public to donate chairs, tables, or mattresses to the children to the centre.<\/p>\n
