Africa-Press<\/a> – Namibia<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>NAMIBIAN President Hage Geingob has once again accentuated the need for vaccine equity in order to ensure that everyone is safe instead of the current situation where industrialized nations are talking about booster shots.<\/p>\n

Geingob expressed these sentiments during a recent courtesy visit by US Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, on the margins of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly.<\/p>\n

President Geingob also used the occasion to thank the United States for the 100 000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine it donated to Namibia, and which arrived in Windhoek early this month.<\/p>\n

Namibia\u2019s Head of State further emphasized the importance of the principle of sovereign equality and Namibia\u2019s pursuit of an independent foreign policy.<\/p>\n

Outlining a shared commitment to multilateralism, the two leaders highlighted the centrality of the rule of law, processes, systems and institutions in Governance.<\/p>\n

President Geingob informed his guest that Africa had gone through different waves of leadership, each characterized my diverse sets of challenges. Africa today was markedly different, however, with a third wave of leadership placing greater accent on democratic governance.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is African leaders who through the African Union and Regional Organizations condemn a coup d\u2019\u00e9tat and unconstitutional changes of Government in member states,\u201d Geingob said.<\/p>\n

Addressing, the climate change crisis, the two leaders agreed that more needed to be done to deal with the climate emergency through stronger partnerships between the public and private sectors.<\/p>\n

The meeting highlighted the US Mega-Solar initiative in Southern Africa as one that held tremendous potential for Namibia and the United States. The leaders also agreed on the need to deal with racial discrimination, including reform and improvement of the United Nations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
