Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>ENVIRONMENT minister Pohamba Shifeta has rejected claims that he was nominated for the Swapo vice president position.<\/p>\n

ENVIRONMENT minister Pohamba Shifeta has rejected claims that he was nominated for the Swapo vice president position.<\/p>\n

The Namibian reported that Shifeta was nominated at the party’s politburo meeting for the vice presidency but failed to go through because his candidature was not seconded.<\/p>\n

The minister said that version is not true.<\/p>\n

\u201cI never stood as any candidate at the politburo. I was never nominated. That is the fact. It was my decision not to stand at the politburo,\u201d Shifeta said.<\/p>\n

The minister could still be nominated at the upcoming central committee meeting over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Deputy prime minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and prime minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila were nominated for the Swapo vice president position at a politburo meeting of the party on Monday.<\/p>\n

The politburo meeting will be followed by a central committee meeting on Saturday (10 September), where the final decision on who will stand for the top Swapo positions will be taken.<\/p>\n
