{"id":29245,"date":"2022-09-08T18:31:00","date_gmt":"2022-09-08T18:31:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/failed-commonwealth-games-trip-leaves-family-baffled"},"modified":"2022-09-08T18:31:00","modified_gmt":"2022-09-08T18:31:00","slug":"failed-commonwealth-games-trip-leaves-family-baffled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/failed-commonwealth-games-trip-leaves-family-baffled","title":{"rendered":"Failed Commonwealth Games trip leaves family baffled"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE family of the late Godhard Metirapi is waiting for Katutura Central councillor Rodman Katjaimo to refund them with N$65 000.<\/p>\n<p>THE family of the late Godhard Metirapi is waiting for Katutura Central councillor Rodman Katjaimo to refund them with N$65 000.<\/p>\n<p>This comes after the councillor promised to facilitate Metirapi&#8217;s trip to the United Kingdom (UK) to attend the recently held Commonwealth Games.<\/p>\n<p>Metirapi died last month after a short illness.<\/p>\n<p>Some of his family members say they will be travelling from Otjinene to Windhoek to possibly meet with Katjaimo this week.<\/p>\n<p>Metirapi&#8217;s cousin George Katire yesterday said his cousin was venturing into different kinds of business schemes when Katjaimo&#8217;s proposal came.<\/p>\n<p>Metirapi then decided to go to the UK.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe cannot tell if he wanted to go and come back, or go there forever,\u201d Katire said.<\/p>\n<p>He said Metirapi had to borrow money from family members for the trip.<\/p>\n<p>The trip never realised.<\/p>\n<p>According to Katire, Metirapi and others have made several attempts to get their money back from Katjaimo.<\/p>\n<p>He said he is not sure whether Metirapi got any of his money back, and if so, how much.<\/p>\n<p>Katire said that the last time Metirapi visited Windhoek, he was trying to get his money back, before he returned to Otjinene.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen he got back to Otjinene he was feeling weak, and his caretaker asked what was wrong. He said he was not feeling well,\u201d Katire said.<\/p>\n<p>He said Metirapi went to hospital the next day and returned home \u2013 still not feeling well.<\/p>\n<p>The day after this his blood pressure was high, upon which he decided to go back to the Otjinene hospital, which sent him to the Gobabis hospital, Katire said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe second week after he started feeling sick, he seemed to stabilise a bit, and we were talking, saying he is fine. He was waiting to get discharged,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>But Metirapi started feeling weak again.<\/p>\n<p>His cousin says doctors at the hospital mentioned kidney issues.<\/p>\n<p>Metirapi died three days after this on 23 August.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was very stressed and his blood pressure kept going up. Your body will not recover fast when something is on your mind,\u201d Katire said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were aware that he was looking for ways to get his money back,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Metirapi left behind five children.<\/p>\n<p>Katjaimo this week said he has been in contact with Metirapi&#8217;s family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have been in communication with his brother Elia Kaambo.
