Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE governor of the Oshikoto region, Penda ya Ndakolo, has warned the police to stop interfering in politics and rather leave that to the politicians.<\/p>\n

THE governor of the Oshikoto region, Penda ya Ndakolo, has warned the police to stop interfering in politics and rather leave that to the politicians.<\/p>\n

Ya Ndakolo said it’s shameful for members of the police to interfere in politics when it has nothing to do with their job, which is to maintain law and order at all times, not insult politicians on social media.<\/p>\n

He was speaking during a courtesy call to the Ondonga king, Fillemon Shuumbwa, by the newly appointed police regional commanders of Oshana and Oshikoto on Wednesday at Onambango.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have observed that many people are using social media in wrong ways. Democracy does not mean that people should insult each other as they want and unnecessarily accuse each other.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think people must learn to advise each other, rather than to insult people. There are some people who go onto social media platforms to insult others. They are insulting people, from the top political leadership to the regional leadership are being insulted and accused for nothing. Some are even insulting the president. Police officers are not politicians, they are there to maintain peace and order,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

It is the responsibility of the political executives in the regions to do political works, as they are appointed by their respective political parties, he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople must leave politics to us politicians. We are the political executives and it will remain our responsibility to do political works.<\/p>\n

\u201cRegional governors, councillors and traditional leaders are here to serve our people regardless of political affiliation or religion,\u201d said Ya Ndakolo.<\/p>\n

He also warned the youth to refrain from insulting political leaders on social media, as it is an equally shameful act.<\/p>\n
