THE lives of learners doing life and learning environment at Oshamukweni Combined School will no longer be the same, after the Kalahari Holdings handed over accommodation and ablution facilities to the school.<\/p>\n

This is after Kalahari Holdings had on Friday handed over accommodation and ablutions facilities to Oshamukweni Combined School in the Oshalumbu area of Ohangwena Region, to advance the learning practice of the pupils at the school.<\/p>\n

The facilities were constructed at the cost of N$ 1.5 million.<\/p>\n

Earlier last year, the school came under the spotlight following reports that learners erected their own shacks to avoid daily long-distance travel between the school and home.<\/p>\n

The school, which was established in 1975, is home to over 300 learners from pre-primary to grade 9.<\/p>\n

Chairperson of Karahari Holdings Martin Inkumbi said they came to learn about the living conditions of the Oshamukweni learners through social media, sometime in January 2021.<\/p>\n

Inkumbi stated that their team, with the assistance of the education directorate in the Region, took a familiarization trip to access the living conditions at the school, which evidently was not conducive for the learners.<\/p>\n

He indicated that they then took a decision as management to give a helping hand and submit a proposal to the board, which subsequently approved for Kalahari Holdings to make a provision for the construction of the three buildings, he said.<\/p>\n

He added that the hostel facilities were constructed with 64 beds and an ablution facility.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are aware that this investment will not be able to cater to all learners in needs, we however trust it will make a difference and we hope it will draw other donors too,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

In his keynote address, Ohangwena governor Walde Ndevashiya applauded Kalahari Holdings for addressing the plight of the learners at Oshamukweni CS who were in critical need of accommodation facilities.<\/p>\n

Education director Iask Hamatwi indicated that the generosity of friends of Education continues to change the lives of the learners.<\/p>\n

Hamatwi stated that the situation of life and learning environment learners at Oshamukweni CS will no longer be the same. It will no longer be a life of hard struggle, but a life befitting a life in an independent Namibia.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe resources supplied by Kalahari Holdings have resulted in the construction of two hostel blocks, an ablution block a well-furnished kitchen facility, and a shade for a dining hall which is still to be completed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He added that the Oshamukweni CS development is a journey that has not reached its end yet, and they will continue to work around the clock to develop the school.<\/p>\n

Hamatwi indicated that they still have a lot of work to do in terms of infrastructure development. However, the donation has made their work much easier to get more things done.<\/p>\n
