Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE City of Windhoek (CoW) has approved a donation of the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) to construct an open market at Havana in the capital.<\/p>\n

This was announced in a recent statement issued by the City of Windhoek.<\/p>\n

The municipality says the PDM will construct the open market on erf 142 near the Havana fourway stop to provide 57 traders currently operating on the Enias Peter Nanyemba Road reserve with suitable trading space.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe provision of trading infrastructure will ensure traders have access to clean water, ablution facilities, and protection against harsh weather conditions, while allowing them to generate income in a regulated and safe environment,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n

The city also announced it has granted Ongos Valley Development Electricity Distribution Company permission to operate under the Municipal Council of Windhoek’s distribution and supply licence as granted by the minister of mines and energy.<\/p>\n

The statement says the approval would have financial implications for the council and would set a precedent as the council has previously received similar requests from housing developments to operate and maintain their own electricity infrastructure, which were denied.<\/p>\n

The statement says Ongos Valley Development wants to establish an Ongos Valley Development Electricity Distribution Company, which will own the electrical assets and operate electricity distribution at the township.<\/p>\n
