{"id":30603,"date":"2022-10-03T10:49:22","date_gmt":"2022-10-03T10:49:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/its-a-sham-katjiua-faction"},"modified":"2022-10-03T10:56:16","modified_gmt":"2022-10-03T10:56:16","slug":"its-a-sham-katjiua-faction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/its-a-sham-katjiua-faction","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s a sham &#8211; Katjiua faction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Ovaherero Traditional Authority (OTA) led by chief designate Mutjinde Katjiua has described the decision by the Ovitoto chief, Vipuira Kapuuo, and the chief&#8217;s council to nominate three candidates to contest for the contentious Ovaherero chieftainship as a sham.<\/p>\n<p>The three are Popular Democratic Movement president McHenry Venaani, Rally of Democracy and Progress president Mike Kavekotora and academic Hoze Riruako.<\/p>\n<p>Their nomination has thrown the contested chieftainship, left vacant by the former paramount chief, Vekuii Rikoro, into more controversy.<\/p>\n<p>Katjiua as a designate believes he is the heir apparent, while other factions are keen to wrestle the throne from him.<\/p>\n<p>The council meeting was convened by Kapuuo in his capacity as chairman of the OTA and the acting paramount chief.<\/p>\n<p>The Ovitoto chief&#8217;s faction meeting took place on Thursday and Friday at Ozombuzovindimba in the Otjinene constituency of the Omaheke region. Ozombuzovindimba is the place where the German general Lothar von Trotha issued the extermination order against the Ovaherero on 2 October 1904.<\/p>\n<p>One of the OTA chiefs Rukambe Uazukuani says he and some other chiefs did not attend the \u201csham meeting\u201d called by the suspended, &#8216;renegade&#8217; chief Kapuuo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs chief Kavari of Kunene informed Kapuuo when the latter invited him to the meeting: The Hereros have a paramount chief in the person of Katjiua.
