Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>A brilliant bowling performance by Ben Shikongo led Namibia to an 11-run victory against Ireland in a T20 World Cup warm-up match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>A brilliant bowling performance by Ben Shikongo led Namibia to an 11-run victory against Ireland in a T20 World Cup warm-up match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Ireland seemed well-set for victory as they chased down Namibia&#8217;s modest total of 138, but Shikongo swung the match Namibia&#8217;s way, taking three wickets in four balls, to send Ireland crashing to 104 for seven wickets with only four overs remaining.<\/p>\n<p>They could not recover and were all out for 127 to hand Namibia a morale-boosting victory before their T20 World Cup campaign gets underway against Sri Lanka on Sunday, 16 October.<\/p>\n<p>There were other fine performances from Ruben Trumpelmann, David Wiese and Jan Frylinck amongst the bowlers, and Gerhard Erasmus, Michael van Lingen and Jan Frylinck amongst the batsmen, but generally the batting was below par and it was left to the bowlers and fielders to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.<\/p>\n<p>After being sent in to bat, Namibia lost Divan La Cock early on for two runs, but Nicol Loftie-Eaton and Michael van Lingen revived the innings with a 45-run partnership.<\/p>\n<p>Van Lingen with 26 off 31 balls and Loftie-Eaton with 15 off 19 were, however, dismissed in quick succession, to leave Namibia struggling at 63\/3 with nine overs to go.<\/p>\n<p>Namibia&#8217;s middle order, led by Gerhard Erasmus, and especially Jan Frylinck, however, went after the bowling and stepped up the tempo as Namibia&#8217;s run rate gradually increased.<\/p>\n<p>Frylinck hit a quick-fire 26 off 16 balls (3&#215;4, 1&#215;6), while Erasmus and JJ Smit added 43 runs off the final five overs to post a total of 138 for four wickets off their 20 overs.<\/p>\n<p>Erasmus remained not out on 34 off 35 balls (3&#215;4), while Smit was not out on 18 off 12 balls (1&#215;4, 1&#215;6).<\/p>\n<p>Ireland got off to a flying start with Paul Stirling and Stephen Doheny putting on 44 off six overs before Ruben Trumpelmann dismissed Doheny for 13, and when they reached 65\/1 after 10 overs they were well in control.<\/p>\n<p>Frylinck, however, inspired Namibia&#8217;s comeback, running Stirling for 37 with some brilliant fielding, and then dismissing Harry Tector for a duck to peg Ireland back to 65\/3, and when he also dismissed George Dockrell for 2, Namibia were right back in the game at 78\/4.<\/p>\n<p>Ireland were still ahead of the run rate, but then Shikongo stepped up with a brilliant 16th over to swing the match Namibia&#8217;s way.<\/p>\n<p>With his second ball he dismissed Gareth Delaney for 8, and after a dot ball, removed both Curtis Campher and Mark Adair for ducks off successive balls as Ireland crashed to 101\/7.<\/p>\n<p>Lorcan Tucker battled on valiantly before being dismissed by David Wiese for 34 off 35 balls (3&#215;4), but he received little support and the whole team was out for 127 to give Namibia an 11-run victory.<\/p>\n<p>Shikongo was Namibia&#8217;s top bowler, taking 3\/11 off two overs, while Frylinck took 2\/13, Ruben Trumpelmann 2\/27 and David Wiese 2\/16.<\/p>\n<p>Captain Erasmus said they took the match very seriously.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWarm-up games are very important for us because it really sets out the momentum and the standard that you will be playing at at the T20 World Cup, so we took it very seriously and tried to hit our top levels,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo an extent we really did that &#8211;
