Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>SWAPO used a legal opinion by minister of home affairs, immigration, safety and security Albert Kawana to block Jerry Ekandjo&#8217;s demand to run for the vice president position at the upcoming ruling party congress.<\/p>\n<p>SWAPO used a legal opinion by minister of home affairs, immigration, safety and security Albert Kawana to block Jerry Ekandjo&#8217;s demand to run for the vice president position at the upcoming ruling party congress.<\/p>\n<p>Ekandjo threatened to sue the ruling party if it did not allow him to challenge deputy prime minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, prime minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, and minister of environment, forestry and tourism Pohamba Shifeta for the Swapo vice presidency position.<\/p>\n<p>A special Swapo Central Committee meeting sat on Friday to discuss Ekandjo&#8217;s plea after he was eliminated during the nomination process last month.<\/p>\n<p>Ekandjo could not be reached for comment yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>His lawyer, Richard Metcalfe, said he was waiting for instructions.<\/p>\n<p>The party meeting, chaired by president Hage Geingob, relied on a legal opinion drafted by secretary Kawana, dated 3 October, to block Ekandjo&#8217;s return.<\/p>\n<p>Kawana said: \u201cComrade Jerry Ekandjo was lawfully and legitimately eliminated during the candidates&#8217;
