Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE president of National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo), Esther Muinjangue, says she remains committed to the genocide cause and is calling on the German government to return to the negotiating table.<\/p>\n

Muinjangue yesterday said her appointment as deputy minister of health and social services by president Hage Geingob has not dampened her resolve to fight for justice.<\/p>\n

Since her appointment, Muinjangue’s leadership has been challenged within Nudo.<\/p>\n

This includes accusations that she has sacrififced the genocide cause for a plum ministerial job.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe same people who are saying I have lost interest in the cause removed me from being the chairperson of the Ovaherero and Ovambanderu Genocide Foundation.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou see, they are contradicting themselves. I have not lost interest. The cause has been discussed in parliament, and I have participated,\u201d Muinjangue said.<\/p>\n

BERLIN CONFERENCE<\/p>\n

Muinjangue will travel to Germany next week to attend a conference organised by the European Centre for Constitutional Rights and United Kingdom-based Forensic Architecture.<\/p>\n

This is a multidisciplinary research group which uses architectural techniques and technologies to investigate cases of state violence and violations of human rights around the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey were here in Namibia, where they did some forensic research. They visited places or sites where genocide took place, and they talked to people who know the history of those places and will try to imagine and bring up pictures as to what that place looked like in the past.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, the conference has two parts \u2013 one is for them to reveal the findings of their research when they were in Namibia. The second part is to look at Namibia-Germany genocide, looking at the current joint declaration, why the affected communities are not happy with it, and what they think should be the way forward,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The Nudo parliamentarian said if given the chance to speak at the conference, she would reitarate her call for Germany to re-negotiate the genocide deal.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we are saying is that the process was not fair, because members of the affected communities were not represented. So, what we are saying is start the process again, because it is not something new,\u201d Muinjangue said.<\/p>\n

She said Nahum Goldman, who was a leading Zionist and founder of the World Jewish Congress, managed to renegotiate the Jewish genocide with former German chancellor Conrad Adenauer.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, an international precedent has already been created,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

OTA CONCERN<\/p>\n

Nudo national chairman Elia Kandjii says the party’s national executive committee has decided to reinstate members suspended for sowing discord in the party.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese people were many. Some were suspended before the current leadership, while some were suspended during our leadership. And most of the transgressions ranged from demobilising the party,\u201d Kandjii says.<\/p>\n

He says he is concerned about the ongoing squabbling over the Ovaherero Traditional Authority (OTA) chieftaincy, saying it is affecting the party.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf those who belong to the OTA, 70% belongs to the Nudo party. This is so because this party was formed through the Ovaherero Chiefs Council,\u201d Kandjii says.<\/p>\n

The party has since resolved to undertake visits to the regions to meet its members, including traditional authorities.<\/p>\n
