Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>PRESIDENTIAL affairs minister Christine \/\/Hoebes has confirmed to The Namibian that the presidential town hall meeting scheduled for 23 November in Windhoek will no longer take place as planned.<\/p>\n

In a memorandum, \/\/Hoebes invited all regional governors to attend the meeting in Windhoek, and bring along 50 delegates.<\/p>\n

In the letter she said this was due to logistical constraints as the meetings would be attended by the governors, accompanied by representatives from key stakeholders, including the chairpersons of regional councils.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is expected that the regional governors would each provide a 15-minute regional status accountability report highlighting issues of strategic importance, such as annual achievements, challenges and how they could be resolved, as well as opportunities for regional development,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The memorandum has been widely shared on social media and elicited much criticism for being a waste of public resources. The public, in particular, questioned the logic of transporting 50 delegates from each of the 14 regions to Windhoek as a costly exercise.<\/p>\n

\/\/Hoebes said the meeting has been postponed to next year, and logistics will be communicated in due course.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, \/\/Hoebes said the presidency will also deliberate and confirm the 50-delegate requirement per region.<\/p>\n
