Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>OIL exploration company ReconAfrica has reported that the drill at its Makandina 8-2 well in the Kavango region was geologically successful but did not find any economic accumulations of hydrocarbons, the major elements in petroleum and gas.<\/p>\n

The company made the announcement on Wednesday, saying although geologically a successful well, \u201ceconomic accumulations of hydrocarbons were not encountered, very likely due to the absence of a trap or a four-way dip closure\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to an Energy Voice report, the company is now working towards the spudding of the next well, 5-1, and it aims to begin drilling on this well in mid-December.<\/p>\n

As news broke of the failure, ReconAfrica’s stock fell to US$1,41 per share. The highest the company reached was US$9,89 per share in 2021.<\/p>\n

ReconAfrica began drilling the Makandina 8-2 well in late June and reached total depth in mid-August.<\/p>\n

The well did find a working petroleum system, it said, finding methane and gas liquids.<\/p>\n

It found the liquids at a depth of between 1 300 and 1 335 metres, while the gases were found between 838 and 1 807 metres, and also between 1 990 and 2 058 metres.<\/p>\n

Critics of the company were quick to celebrate, with investors in Viceroy Research firm saying investors in the company were warned about fraud.<\/p>\n

Viceroy has been on ReconAfrica’s case since the company made initial announcements, citing several irregularities and inaccuracies.<\/p>\n

The research firm had also accused ReconAfrica of making several positive announcements just to raise more capital.<\/p>\n
