Africa-Press<\/a> – Namibia<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>THE Ongwediva Town Council last week commenced with its indoor residual spraying campaign, targeting Extension 11, Extension 15 and New Reception after a case was confirmed.<\/p>\n

Ongwediva spokesperson, Jackson Muma, said only one case of malaria was confirmed in that area, however, other locations such as Extension 14, Efidi Extension 4, Sky Phase 1,2 and 3 will also be covered as a remedial effort.<\/p>\n

Muma stated that the spraying campaign is carried out annually to prevent the outbreak of malaria. He added that the officials on duty wear green overalls and are at all times accompanied by a council vehicle, hence the community should be vigilant against unauthorised persons pretending to be council workers.<\/p>\n

Muma emphasised that the in-house spraying is important to ensure total protection from mosquito bites. He further explained that the council will use Sumi Shield chemical since it is effective in eliminating mosquitoes at an interval of one to three hours after landing on a wall or object with the spray residue.<\/p>\n

\u201cResidents are expected to prepare their houses prior to the spray so as to avoid spillage of the chemicals to other items,\u201d he said.
