Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Landless People’s Movement (LPM) has left a coalition with the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC), Popular Democratic Movement (PDM), and Joint Walvis Bay Residents Association (JWRA) it has been in since 2020.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Swapo councillors nominated the LPM’s Ryan Gordon for the position of mayor.<\/p>\n

Gordon contested the position of mayor against Trevino Forbes, who has been mayor since 2020.<\/p>\n

This led to a secret ballot vote where Forbes emerged victorious. Saara Mutondoka retains the deputy mayor position.<\/p>\n

Gordon also lost out on being part of the management committee.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was never a coalition. We held no meeting, maybe one at the beginning of the year. For me, it’s better that I work from the outside where I can make a real difference because I am here for the community of Walvis Bay. They put me here,\u201d he said about his move.<\/p>\n

Gordon was replaced by Olivia Andrews of IPC in the management committee.<\/p>\n

He nominated the Swapo councillor, Ephraim Shozi, as an alternate member of the management committee.<\/p>\n

Shozi lost to fellow Swapo councillor Paulus Kauhondamwa in a secret ballot vote.<\/p>\n

Kauhondamwa was nominated by Roland Bramwell from JWRA and seconded by IPC’s Andrews.<\/p>\n

The rest of the office bearers’ positions remain unchanged.<\/p>\n

Council went into recess until 23 January 2023.<\/p>\n
