We will not vote for Swapo or anyone,\u201d group leader John Amadhila said.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, the group marched to the office of the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs to hand over a petition seeking registration under the ministry.<\/p>\n<p>Timoteus Mashuna, a historian in the defence and veterans affairs ministry, received the petition on behalf of minister Frans Kapofi and promised the group that the ministry would study it and respond.<\/p>\n<p>Amadhila said despite being registered under the ministry of youth, they do not receive enough benefits. He said according to the Veterans Act of 2008, they are entitled to benefits including N$50 000 cash gratuities and N$200 000 for projects, which they can only claim when registered under the veterans ministry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe that act number 2 of 2008 didn&#8217;t separate us from our parents, but gave the ministry\/cabinet permission to separate us from our parents,\u201d Amadhila said.<\/p>\n<p>He said many children of the veterans across the country are homeless and living as orphans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are dependents of living or deceased veterans; we have been suffering for a very long time under our Swapo government. Since our repatriation to Namibia, we are suffering as if our parents didn&#8217;t contribute anything to Namibia&#8217;s independence.<\/p>\n<p>Amdhila said they want the minister to give them the same registration forms that were used in 2008 to register all veterans, for them to get registered as dependents of living or deceased veterans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2008, the founding father promised that the majority must recruit in defence, as we were born to be soldiers. The Ministry of Defence was given a responsibility to recruit the dependents of living or deceased veterans and vulnerable people through the special project that was created in 2008 in Oluno base, as a special project to train and recruit the majority. Since 2011, it stopped. Why?\u201d Amadhila asked.<\/p>\n<p>The group has warned the government and anyone \u201cpretending to represent us\u201d to stop referring to them as \u201cchildren of the liberation struggle\u201d and \u201cNamibian exile kids\u201d because these names are not theirs.
