Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Namibia Water Corporation (NamWater) is urging residents of Walvis Bay and surrounding areas to use water sparingly to prevent water shortages.<\/p>\n

According to NamWater\u2019s Acting Head of Coastal Business Unit, Frans Ihuhua, some boreholes and reservoirs that supply water to Walvis Bay and surrounding areas are operating below capacity.<\/p>\n

This, he revealed, includes the B-Area production boreholes and reservoirs at the High Dune and Dorop South schemes, which are currently operating below 30% capacity. He said that this is a result of ongoing power supply challenges caused by recent winds and theft of electric cables in the area.<\/p>\n

Ihuhua also revealed that the storage reservoir levels at the Swartbank and Rooibank water supply schemes have only reached 65% capacity.<\/p>\n

He explained that a satisfactory recovery rate can only be noticed when considering the combined operations and reservoir levels of the Swartbank, Rooibank, High Dune and Dorop South schemes, which are operating at 95% capacity collectively.<\/p>\n

Ihuhua assured that the Water Utility will continuously monitor the situation while completing outstanding repairs and maintenance work. However, he encouraged residents of Walvis Bay and surrounding areas to continue to use water sparingly to avoid any water shortages caused by the current supply challenges.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe corporation apologises for any inconvenience caused by natural occurrences and human factors, and hopes to resume optimum\/normal water supply and flow over the next two months,\u201d Ihuhua added.<\/p>\n
