Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>A GERMAN tourist couple aged 61 and 53 said they have been left traumatised and bruised after a man claiming to be a member of the Windhoek City Police allegedly assaulted them on 3 December 2022 at Zoo Park in Windhoek.<\/p>\n

One of the tourists, who asked to remain anonymous, said an argument broke out after a woman accused him of bumping her car after they reversed out of the Zoo Park parking area.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe started going on, saying we are going to pay. We asked her if it’s true we can do it via the car insurance, but she was so aggressive and loud.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe tried calling the police and all they said was, they cannot come for a little accident,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

After a few minutes, a city police officer showed up and took an alcohol test on both the drivers and asked them both to leave, he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe thought the issue was settled. Later, a man came out of nowhere with the lady that was claiming we bumped her car and forcefully tried to put me in handcuffs, I had to push him off,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The two people reportedly followed the German couple to their car, tried to prevent them from driving away, and broke the car key.<\/p>\n

\u201cI kept on begging them that the police said we can go, but they followed us and tried blocking me from driving the car, the guy who was claiming to be from the police, was trying to get my keys until the key broke in the ignition.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey even tried to steal our phones and [tried to force] us to drive with them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said the man showed them a letter stating that he was from the city police and his name was Munyeputa Hange.<\/p>\n

\u201cCity Police are not trustworthy, we opened the case weeks ago, but still there’s no proof that they are investigating the matter.<\/p>\n

Maybe the police are working together with him because we saw him shaking hands with an officer,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In a video taken by the tourists, onlookers can be heard telling the tourists not to do what Hange was saying as it was not safe for them.<\/p>\n

When The Namibian contacted Hange, he initially said he works for the city police but then later changed to say he was not a city police employee.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am not working at Windhoek City Police and you should contact my commander,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Nampol spokesperson Silas Shipandeni confirmed that a case had been registered.<\/p>\n

\u201cI requested the information from the responsible investigator, but it’s not been provided to me yet,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Windhoek City Police chief Abraham Kanime, when asked about the officer and the incident, said he has not received information about the incident yet, but that the police are there to protect everyone.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am not aware of that name and have not received a report on that incident yet,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
