{"id":36740,"date":"2022-12-29T17:28:27","date_gmt":"2022-12-29T17:28:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/general-shikongo-inaugurates-the-newly-built-ongha-police-station"},"modified":"2022-12-29T17:37:24","modified_gmt":"2022-12-29T17:37:24","slug":"general-shikongo-inaugurates-the-newly-built-ongha-police-station","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/general-shikongo-inaugurates-the-newly-built-ongha-police-station","title":{"rendered":"General Shikongo inaugurates the newly built Ongha police station"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE newly built Ongha police station in the Ohangwena Region has been officially opened.<\/p>\n<p>The inspector general of the Namibian police, Lieutenant-General Joseph Shikongo officiated at the event Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Shikongo said that Ongha-based police officers were able to provide policing services to the local communities for the past 24 years, but the condition under which they operated left much to be desired.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was for this reason that our government found it befitting to construct a modern facility to improve service delivery to the community and also improve the working conditions of our members,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The full-fledged Ongha police station is equipped with four vehicles to ensure efficient service delivery to the communities.<\/p>\n<p>The facility comprises a charge office; an administrative block with nine offices and a board room; gender-based violence unit; two radio control rooms; a computer\/IT server room; two record rooms; a processing room; a visitors\u2019 room; an armoury\/safe room; interrogation room; identification room; holding cells; kitchen; a guard house; ablution block; water tower and tanks; two fuel tanks and pumps with a capacity of 30 000 litres; dispensers and a canopy among others.<\/p>\n<p>The construction of new police facilities at the Ongha settlement forms part of a government plan to expand policing services to all corners of the country.<\/p>\n<p>The construction site for the N$36 million project was handed over to the contractor in February 2020 and the construction was completed last month.<\/p>\n<p>Ongha is located mid-way between Ondangwa and Oshikango. It is an important settlement where police officers have for many years operated from dilapidated pre-cast structures.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, Shikongo also handed over the newly renovated police holding cells at Kavango East as well as newly constructed houses and police barracks at Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region.<\/p>\n<p>He is also expected to handover another newly constructed police barracks at King Nehale Checkpoint in the Oshikoto Region.<\/p>\n<p>He will also be opening two police sub-stations at Ndama and Sauyemwa locations in Rundu, Kavango East Region.<\/p>\n\r\n                <style
