Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>Major general Aktofel Nambahu has taken over as the commander of the Namibian Defence Force, with effect from Thursday.<\/p>\n

He takes over from retired major general Matheus Alueendo. Alueendo handed over the reins to Nambahu on Thursday at the Lieutenant General Dimo Hamaambo Garrison parade ground at Grootfontein.<\/p>\n

Alueendo has been with the army since its establishment in 1990, serving as the army commander since 2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo all rank and file of the Namibian army, I am grateful that I have enjoyed a wonderful journey of serving among you during my tenure as army commander,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In his acceptance speech, Nambahu pledged to focus on training to ensure the alignment of all staff to the vision and mission of the army and \u201cin a way we are intended to fight the war\u201d.<\/p>\n

He added that he will also strive to look after the welfare of the staff to ensure positive morale among the troops.<\/p>\n

Other promotions<\/p>\n

Colonel David Diyeve has been promoted to brigadier general and appointed deputy army commander. He takes over from retired brigadier general Ambrosius Kwedhi.<\/p>\n

Colonel Rehabiam Kalimba has been promoted to brigadier general and appointed deputy chief of staff: joint operations.<\/p>\n

Colonel Natanael Ngolo has been promoted to brigadier general and appointed chief of staff: defence intelligence.<\/p>\n

Group captain Andima Iyambo is now the air commodore and appointed commander of air operations.<\/p>\n

Eleven senior officers have also been promoted to the rank of colonel.<\/p>\n
