{"id":36986,"date":"2023-01-05T17:02:43","date_gmt":"2023-01-05T17:02:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/back-to-school-shopping-irks-parents"},"modified":"2023-01-05T17:52:13","modified_gmt":"2023-01-05T17:52:13","slug":"back-to-school-shopping-irks-parents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/back-to-school-shopping-irks-parents","title":{"rendered":"Back to school shopping irks parents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>With schools starting soon, parents have been rushing to stationery shops to purchase school supplies required for the beginning of the 2023 academic year.<\/p>\n<p>As usual, stationery were packed out throughout supermarkets, with parents and learners meticulously marking off lists provided by schools to ensure necessary items are bought and everyone is set for a smooth beginning of the first trimester.<\/p>\n<p>Shops in Northern Namibia were full.<\/p>\n<p>Tempers were frayed.<\/p>\n<p>According to the line ministry\u2019s school calendar, classes resume next Wednesday, 11 January.<\/p>\n<p>The queues in Pep, Waltons, Jet, Game and Shoprite in northern towns were long, with some parents visibly frustrated with their partners and children. One man was shouting in Pep Stores, \u201cWhere is your mother; I have been looking for you guys and you are not answering your phones. I don\u2019t even have enough money to buy all the stationery,\u201d he shouted. Saima Negonga from Oshitutuma in the Omusati region said she has been waiting for more than an hour but did not get help.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am not satisfied with what government schools are doing. They are sending long lists of stationery but we don\u2019t have enough money to buy all of that,\u201d she lamented.<\/p>\n<p>She further complained about the money she spends on transport to come to town since the nearest shops do not have all the stationery requested by the school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no difference between government and private schools.
