Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE recent by-election in the Moses \/\/Garoe\u0308b constituency of the Khomas Region has exposed a crack in the official opposition PDM, with some party members now accusing their national leaders and Windhoek headquarters personnel of sleeping on duty and of doing things without proper consultations.<\/p>\n

Some among the party\u2019s rank and file members in the north revealed to Informante\u0301 their unhappiness with the \u201cmysterious decision\u201d to not field a candidate in a constituency within the nation\u2019s Capital City.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t know why we failed to field a candidate and that is failure we are unhappy about,\u201d said a veteran PDM member on condition of anonymity.<\/p>\n

His views were echoed by at least three others in Oshakati and Ondangwa.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have betrayed hundreds of those voters in Moses \/\/Garoe\u0308b who voted PDM in 2020. We also missed a golden opportunity to gauge the level of support we enjoy in the constituency and craft our campaign strategy accordingly as we prepare for the 2024 and 2025 elections.\u201d<\/p>\n

Oshana regional Coordinator Theofilus Kamati and Deputy Secretary-General Linus Tobias refused to comment, rather referring all the enquiries to the party\u2019s Secretary-General Immanuel Ngaringombe whose phone was for the past few days either unreachable or went unanswered.<\/p>\n

When reached for comment, PDM parliamentarian Hidipo Hamata said that his party\u2019s failure to field a candidate in the Moses \/\/Garoe\u0308b was a way of giving a chance to others to contest without dividing the opposition votes.<\/p>\n

He said that the PDM will definitely contest the by-election for the Okaku constituency in the Oshana Region which is expected to take place in March following the death of councilor and chairperson of the Regional council Hannu Kapenda last month.<\/p>\n
