Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>OLD Mutual, one of Namibia’s financial service providers, are now offering the country’s farmers agri-insurance.<\/p>\n

According to a statement issued by the general manager of commercial lines, Gert Grobler, last week, Old Mutual has joined the Namibia Agricultural Union and will offer farmers short-term Agrisure insurance packages.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe agricultural sector is the backbone of the Namibian economy, as it is the biggest employer, and has over the years been one of the significant sectors that have contributed to national coffers,\u201d says Grobler, adding that Agrisure offers a holistic risk protection solution tailored to individual farmers’ needs.<\/p>\n

Grobler says the agriculture sector is crucial because it creates a source of income, food security, foreign earnings, and provides raw materials to the manufacturing industry.<\/p>\n

Agriculture’s contribution to the country’s gross domestic product over the past five years has been just over 4%, he says.<\/p>\n

Grobler says livestock farming comprises approximately two thirds of agricultural production, with crop farming and forestry making up the remaining third.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe understand the challenges involved with protecting agricultural risks and the impact unforeseen events can have on the long-term sustainability of an agricultural producer’s business,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

Grobler says Agrisure cover extends from homeowners to homes, buildings, vehicles, irrigation systems on wheels, theft, accidental damage, livestock and pedigree animals, and machinery breakdowns.<\/p>\n

Agrisure also offers a holistic risk protection solution tailored to meet individual farmers’ needs.<\/p>\n

He says Agrisure is backed by service excellence and supported via a national branch network, with sales offices throughout the country.<\/p>\n
