Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THREE men charged in connection with a fatal armed robbery at Windhoek’s Avis Dam in July 2020 have to return to the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court in April to be informed if the prosecutor general (PG) has decided how their case should proceed.<\/p>\n

The three men \u2013 Kefas Iileka (35), Johannes Shetunyenga (34) and Antonio Cheme (27) \u2013 heard during a court appearance before magistrate Jilleen Kapia yesterday that the prosecutor general’s office has given instructions for further investigations in their case to be carried out.<\/p>\n

Since all the instructions have not yet been carried out, the prosecutor general’s decision on the men’s case is not yet available, public prosecutor Precious Matali told the court.<\/p>\n

Matali requested a postponement of the men’s case to give the PG’s office more time to make a decision on the prosecution of Iileka, Shetunyenga and Cheme.<\/p>\n

The three men were told to make their next court appearance on 3 April. Iileka and Shetunyenga are charged with counts of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and attempted murder.<\/p>\n

Cheme is facing charges of receiving stolen property and defeating or obstructing the course of justice. Iileka and Shetunyenga are accused of robbing and murdering a Windhoek resident, Daniele Ferrari (52), at Avis Dam on the eastern side of Windhoek on 14 July 2020.<\/p>\n

Ferrari was killed when he was attacked with a panga and stabbed with a knife while visiting the dam, which is a popular spot for walkers. A cellphone, wallet, watch, belt and car keys were allegedly stolen from Ferrari during the attack.<\/p>\n

Iileka and Shetunyenga are accused of having attacked another visitor to the dam as well, and of attempting to murder him by hitting him with a panga on the same day that Ferrari was killed.<\/p>\n

Iileka is also accused of having robbed a woman at Avis Dam on 10 July 2020. A knife and screwdriver were allegedly used as weapons during that incident.<\/p>\n

The state is alleging that Cheme bought Ferrari’s cellphone from Iileka and Shetunyenga and disposed of or destroyed the phone prior to his arrest, after a police officer had informed him the phone had been stolen from Ferrari.<\/p>\n

The three men denied guilt on all charges during an appearance in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court in August last year. The three accused are free on bail. Cheme was granted bail in an amount of N$5 000 in July 2021, while Iileka and Shetunyenga were released on bail of N$2 000 each in August last year.<\/p>\n
