Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>Officers stationed at the Namasira police post will no longer be playing hide and seek with the elements after the safety and security ministry constructed new accommodation facilities for them.<\/p>\n

The Namasira police post is located some 75 kilometres west of Nkurenkuru, and borders the Kavango West and Ohangwena regions.<\/p>\n

Last year, safety and security minister Albert Kawana promised them better living conditions while they are on duty away from their homes. Last week, he handed over newly-constructed pre-fabricated accommodation facilities, which cost taxpayers about N$4.1 million.<\/p>\n

These comprise three blocks of barracks for officers (containing 15 rooms), a kitchen and ablution facilities.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, I am very happy to stand here. When I was here for the very first time, this base was wrecked by a storm that destroyed the properties of our men and women in uniform. We had to rush some tents from the Danger Ashipala Police Training College to come and rescue our colleagues here,\u201d said Kawana.<\/p>\n

The new facilities are powered by solar energy, and boast a borehole for water supply.<\/p>\n

Kawana promised the officers that a charge office will be constructed in the second phase.<\/p>\n

Attending the same event, Mpungu constituency councillor Titus Shiudifonya applauded the ministry for improving the living and working conditions of officers.<\/p>\n

He said police officers will now attend to their duties effectively.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you, comrade minister, for delivering on your promise to bring services to our region. It is the police\u2019s mandate to protect us and our properties. Our wish has been made true, as we seek better service as they are now giving us the facility that will serve us,\u2019\u2019 he observed.<\/p>\n
