Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Central Procurement Board of Namibia (CPBN) has reiterated that the controversial medical suply tender has not been awarded yet.<\/p>\n

The CPBN issued a media statement on Friday explaining the board is still rectifying errors made on the quantities of disposable surgical gloves, which were quoted at N$30 million as opposed to N$3 million.<\/p>\n

This has caused the quote for bidders to shoot up to N$650 million, as in the case of Amnics trading, a company owned by businessman Shapwa Kanyama.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis correction was made for all bidders, however, the error was not corrected in the notice of selection for award. Rectifying the oversight will definitely result in the reduction of the overall award value, inclusive of the N$650 million,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n

It says no advantage was given to any bidder for the manufacturing of condoms.<\/p>\n

The selection was based on the cheapest at the time of evaluation, reads the statement.<\/p>\n

The CPBN says some bidders are more expensive than others regarding some products, but are awarded tenders due to being local manufacturers.<\/p>\n

The Public Procurement Act empowers the CPBN to confer this advantage.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe board will reconsider these allocations, taking into consideration the merits of the reconsideration requests received in this regard. The outcome of the reconsideration will be reflected in the notice of award being the next step of the procurement process,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n
