Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Ministry of Fisheries is working on completing a balanced scorecard for fishing rights holders by the end of the financial year.<\/p>\n

This was said by the director of policy, planning and economics, Anna Erastus, in an interview with The Namibian.<\/p>\n

She says the time of implementation will depend on the ministry.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe scorecard is very important because it is going to determine the distribution of the quotas,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Currently, there is no determining factor on how fish quotas are allocated.<\/p>\n

According to Erastus, the scorecard quotas will be allocated based on performance.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is about performance and weight. It will be very transparent,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The scorecard is on top of the agenda for Erastus’ return to work, two years after fighting her dismissal from the ministry in 2020.<\/p>\n

She will retire in June.<\/p>\n

She did not want to dwell on the details of her dismissal.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor me, it was just an unfair dismissal and I still don’t know why I was dismissed, because there were too many stories,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Erastus was reinstated in November 2022 when she won her labour case on technicalities when the ministry failed to comply with the timeframe of its appeal against the initial ruling.<\/p>\n

The position was never filled.<\/p>\n

Fisheries ministry spokesperson Uaripi Katjukua declined to comment on the matter, saying she is not at liberty to discuss a staff member’s issues with the media.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’m open to discussing other fisheries and marine resources issues that are of public interest,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Inside sources claim that one of the reasons why she was dismissed was because she made the working environment unbearable for her subordinates.<\/p>\n

Four of them have allegedly resigned as a result.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are worried about the well-being of the people who claim to be victims of her aggression. What happens to their complaints? The ministry ought to listen to its staff because a group of people cannot have a problem against one person,\u201d said the sources.<\/p>\n

The sources are questioning why the ministry has agreed to return her to office, which they feel is a basic violation of conditions of employment for failing to provide a safe environment.<\/p>\n
