Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>TWO members of the Namibian Police’s Special Reserve Force who are accused of murdering a civilian at Keetmanshoop last month have been released from police custody on bail of N$3 000 each.<\/p>\n

Bernard Mulisa (25) and Willbard Neshuku (30) are facing charges of murder and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after the death of Elleste Plaatjies (31).<\/p>\n

They are due to return to court on 17 March.<\/p>\n

In a bail ruling late last week, magistrate Erich Dandu described the two officers as good candidates for bail but warned them not to interfere with police investigations or make direct or indirect contact with state witnesses in their case.<\/p>\n

Dandu said the state had not been able to provide grounds that it would not be in the public interest to grant bail to the two men.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have also not seen evidence that the applicants would abscond and interfere with state witnesses. Furthermore, I also found there are no grounds for prejudice in the administration of justice, as the investigating officer’s testimony shows that the investigation is at an advanced stage and could be completed soon,\u201d said Dandu.<\/p>\n

The state was represented by prosecutor Marlon Adams, while lawyer Marthino Olivier represented the two accused.<\/p>\n

Edward Plaatjies, a relative of Elleste Plaatjies, described the granting of bail as a sad day for justice \u201cespecially for the community of Keetmanshoop, because justice was definitely not served”.<\/p>\n
