Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>KUDUS Rugby Club got their season off to a great start when they beat Wanderers 21-17 in the Men’s Premier League final at the United 10-a-side tournament in Windhoek over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Kudus, also gave a great all round showing in the traditional pre-season tournament, with their second team finishing as runners-up in the Men’s Reserve League, while their women narrowly missed the final, despite beating Wanderers in the group stages.<\/p>\n

In the Men’s Premier League final, Kudus held a narrow 7-5 lead at the break, but stepped on the gas to run out convincing winners.<\/p>\n

Geraldo Beukes opened their account, rounding off a forward drive with a try that he converted, but Wanderers struck back with an unconverted try by hooker Dandre Schreuder, barging over from a tap penalty.<\/p>\n

Wanderers took a 10-7 lead when lock Johan Meyer crashed over after a fine run by centre DJ Holtzhausen, but Kudus regained a 14-10 lead after a try by centre Paolo Andrews.<\/p>\n

They immediately stretched their lead to 21-10 when winger Aston Mukwilongo went over for a try from the kickoff, with Beukes once again converting, before scrumhalf Louis Carsten scored a late consolation try for Wanderers, converted by Kieron Diergaardt.<\/p>\n

It was a well-deserved triumph for Kudus who had won all their matches during the group stage of the tournament.<\/p>\n

They beat Grootfontein 26-7, and Wanderers and United, by the same score, 14-12.<\/p>\n

Wanderers finished second during the group stages after beating Grootfontein 22-12 and United 14-12. United finished third with one win, after beating Grootfontein 19-0.<\/p>\n

United II won the Men’s Reserve League final after beating Kudus II 19-12 in the final.<\/p>\n

In the semifinals, United II beat Mariental I 12-10, while Kudus II beat Wanderers II 19-10.<\/p>\n

The Women’s League was a close affair with the finalists having to be determined via points aggregate.<\/p>\n

United, Wanderers and Kudus all finished on two points after winning one and losing one match each, but United and Wanderers progressed to the final with a better points aggregate, with United beating Wanderers 10-7 in the final.<\/p>\n

It was sweet revenge for United, after Wanderers beat them 10-5 during the group stages, while Kudus beat Wanderers 14-12.<\/p>\n
