Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>The Government Institutions Pension Fund (GIPF) has informed pensioners, spouses and child beneficiaries who have not yet enrolled in the fund’s new biometric enrollment system that their monthly benefit payments will be suspended in March.<\/p>\n

This was announced by the fund’s spokesperson Edwin Tjiramba on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

According to Tjiramba, the suspension will affect all members who entered retirement at the end of January 2023.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fund launched the new biometrics enrollment and verification system on 1 August 2022 and has since embarked on a nationwide outreach programme to raise awareness and to enroll pensioners and affected beneficiaries to secure their monthly pension benefits going forward,\u201d Tjiramba said.<\/p>\n

According to GIPF chief executive officer David Nuyoma, enrollment on the biometric system is key to ensuring that the fund pays benefits to the rightful beneficiaries and on time.<\/p>\n

He said that on average, the fund pays N$220 million per month in pension benefits and fully understands the safety net this provides to many Namibian families.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs such, pensioners and beneficiaries are encouraged to come and enrol with our mobile teams which are currently in the regions as per the daily radio announcements, as well as at all our regional offices countrywide without delay,\u201d Tjiramba added.<\/p>\n
