Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>Mining operations at Rossing Uranium will not end in 2026 as was expected, but they will continue until 2036.<\/p>\n

This follows after a feasibility study, conducted by the mine, revealed they can operate for another 10 years.<\/p>\n

Ro\u0308ssing Uranium is Namibia\u2019s first commercial uranium mine that started production in 1976.<\/p>\n

Managing director of the mine Johan Coetzee, during a press conference on Friday, indicated that Ro\u0308ssing Uranium conducted a feasibility study for the extension of the mine, seeing that they were granted a 15-year mining licence in 2021.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe objective of the feasibility study was to evaluate and document the technical, practical and economic feasibility to extend the mine\u2019s lifespan,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

Coetzee said the board, following the completion of the bankable feasibility study, approved the life extension from 2026 to 2036 and also recommended an operating model.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis provides Ro\u0308ssing with a new lease of life and translates to the continuation of various macro-economic benefits for its stakeholders. We appreciate all the support received from our board, employees and other stakeholders during the journey of extending our life of mine to 2036,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
