Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE police have arrestd and detained four individuals who were yesterday found in possession of more than 30 stolen items, including laptops and cellphones, in Windhoek.<\/p>\n

Deputy Windhoek City Police chief Levi Ileka yesterday said through their successful operation strategy, they managed to bust a syndicate suspected of dealing in stolen items in Windhoek.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been following this syndicate for many days now, however, today we got them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Ileka said the police followed a suspicious vehicle in which five laptops were discovered after they pulled the vehicle over.<\/p>\n

\u201cUpon enquiry, we went to search their houses, where we found all these laptops. Our suspicion is that these laptops were in transit to a neighbouring country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Ileka said the suspects’ nationalities cannot be revealed yet.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just want to inform the public of people who are terrorising the community. We appeal to the Constitution to make sure these people are removed from the community and kept behind bars,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Ileka said this serves as a warning to other criminals in the capital.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe estimated value of the items is more than N$150 000,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

City police chief inspector and head of operations Carl Hilko said yesterday’s arrests are an indication that law-enforcement members are on the ground.<\/p>\n

\u201cA case will be registered at the Wanaheda Police Station and investigations are ongoing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Hilko said after investigations the public is expected to collect their items with proof of ownership.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are not sleeping, and we are making sure our city is safe, and we will continue to do so,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
