Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources on Friday donated 2,5 tonnes of freshwater fish to flood victims in the Omusati, Oshana and Ohangwena regions.<\/p>\n

Fisheries minister Derek Klazen raised awareness of the destitution in the northern parts of the country where the floods have affected the livelihoods of victims.<\/p>\n

He acknowledged aquaculture as a means to help Namibians create opportunities and jobs for themselves.<\/p>\n

\u201cEmployment creation and food security is a high priority of my ministry, and I call upon Namibians who have passion for aquaculture to start aquaculture projects. The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources stands ready to provide the fingerlings and technical advisory support to those fish farmers,\u201d Klazen said at a press conference on Friday.<\/p>\n

Prime minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila accepted the donation on behalf of the affected regions.<\/p>\n

Kuugongelwa-Amadhila commended the fisheries ministry for the donation and called for Namibians to continue to supplement the government’s efforts to provide assistance to the underprivileged.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou follow a number of others that have made donations, here and on site where victims are relocated,” Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said.<\/p>\n

The flood situation is improving and most schools have reopened, while the number of people at relocation centres have decreased in the Ohangwena and Oshana regions, she said.<\/p>\n
